And the good times keep on rolling!

The weekend’s successes actually started on Saturday 10th when the Su Ragazzi Ladies descended on the NUVOC teams, and left them battered and bruised. The matches were rearranged fixtures, were played in the best of spirits, were almost competitive, and were convincing 3-0 results for both the Fabulous Suettes and the Su II Ladies.

The NUVOC Ladies tried their best, served really tough, made lots of noise and competed in patches, but did not have the correct answers to the questions posed by the Glasgow Girls! The questions were about hitting power, were about setting speed, were about being game smart, and the Suettes had all of the answers!

There was a good feeling in the group when the dust settled and the encounter was passed…..so the Su Ragazzi bandwagon rolled on to Sunday.

Sunday started with a long journey to St Andrews University sports hall for the finals of the John Syer Grand Prix. First up the City of Glagow Ragazzi boys joined the Fabulous Suettes in their semi-final matches against South Ayrshire for the men, and University of Edinburgh for the women. Both oppositions were dispatched quick time, in straight sets, with little fuss and no bother.

The St Andrews new sports hall is a terrific venue, and the SVA presented the event splendidly, and the two final matches were an accurate reflection of where the power in Scottish Volleyball currently sits…….Su Ragazzi V City of Edinburgh in both game; the score line was 3 sets to 1 in both games; the play was competitive and tight in both games; and the troops from Glasgow emerged victorious in both games!

Captains Carly Murray and Mac McLaughlin marshalled their teams and demanded the highest stands of performance. They got it. Power Hitters Eddie Gorecki and Laura McReady (voted MotM) scored freely with thunderous hits. MBs Mhairi Agnew and William Miller scored with first tempo attacks and crucial blocks to disrupt the rhythm of the Edinburgh sides, while talisman Ally Galloway quietly went about the business of winning the match.

Both of our sides lost a set, which was testimony to how much the Edinburgh teams wanted to win, but they simply did not have enough. Su Ragazzi 3 City of Edinburgh 1 – twice!

A fantastic achievement, a well-deserved success story, and perhaps the first of three?
