Season 2019-20 has started well for the Fabulous Suettes with 3-0 wins in the National League against Volleyball Aberdeen and City of Edinburgh and wins against University of Edinburgh I and II in the John Syer Grand Prix.

This rampaging start to the campaign is testimony to the determination of the Su Ragazzi players to improve on last season's second place finish in the Premiership!

The match on Saturday 12th October against the champions City of Edinburgh came about early in the new season. The daunting task of going head to head with Danny Traylor's side was made even harder with the match being played at Fortress South Queensferry. As the story of the encounter unfolded it lived up to all of the pre-match hype and expectation.

Both teams played some terrific attacking play. Both teams demonstrated some fabulous defence, and both teams piled on the pressure from the service. It was a ding-dong affair played in the best of spirits by the players in both teams.

Danny's team were well drilled, were enthusiastic and strived for the win, but the power of the Ragazzi players began to tell. Setter Nicole Ramage found her hitters, Swing Hitter Katie Barbour smashed the ball through the Edinburgh defence, Captain Carly Murray urged her team to stay in front of the competition, and Middle Hitter Tya Keys scored big points in very big rallies.

In the first set the Edinburgh side clawed their way to level the score at 24-all, then could not prevent the team from Glasgow winning the next two points. In the second set the home side lost 21-25 as the visitors began to dominate the match-ups. The third set was won 25-20 and the Ragazzi players jumped about to celebrate a fantastic win!

Both sets of players reflected on a match which justified all of the work and effort that goes into preparing for the best level of competition available in Scotland. Both sets of players reflected that there will be lots of opportunities to replay the match-ups, but the Ragazzi girls have the bragging rights until the next encounter.
